Does anyone know anything about pkgconfig?

The man page is very good.

From your (the pgsql developers) point of view, it is not too hard.

With "make install", construct a postgresql.pc file and drop it in
<prefix>/lib/pkgconfig directory.

From the application developers POV, there is one less thing to worry

about.

It's basically a generalized version of pg_config and similar tools that
works out of a centralized database. I'm not convinced that it solves any
real problems without introducing new ones. The idea is alright, but I'm
not eager to support pkg-config just to support it.
