I'm assuming you mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_application
by 'portable'...

a "portable" version of a database server doesn't make any sense. a USB
stick is not at ALL suitable as database storage, they perform really
poorly on random writes, and if you're going to store the data on the
systems hard disk, you might as well store the software there too as you
can't access the data without the server software.

Re: portable version for Usb Pen

Really my question is:

A cannot install any type of exe application on my pc farm. Not have admin
permission.

But my idea is to make a portable SERVER (sql, oracle, Mysql…) on my pc an
share it from the rest of pc of my farm.

if you don't have permissions to install software from your management,
then you shouldn't be doing this at all.

if you have a business need for this, then get the network
administrators to deploy a proper database server on the network, don't
juryrig something up on your PC

Re: portable version for Usb Pen

First of all, you have to format your USB as NTFS instead FAT or FAT32
because NTFS has some features needed by PostgreSQL according to this link:

https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Running_%26_Installing_PostgreSQL_On_Native_Windows

In the section "Can I install PostgreSQL on a FAT partition?"

Regards.

and now you have a HUGE problem. the postgres server has to run as a
dedicated user, and that user will have a different UUID on each system
you plug this portable stick into. oh, and as a non-administrator, you
can't create said user.

anyways, the whole idea is bad. postgres does a LOT of 8k block random
writes. USB flash memory absolutely HATES random writes, and will burn
itself out in short order, meanwhile running at molasses slow speeds.
