Important Announcement
Hi...
As was previously announced, we are currently looking at upgrading
the server in all respects... well, totally replacing it is more like it.
Double the RAM, PII processor, 4x the disk space, increased bandwidth,
etc.
With this is mind, we are asking the PostgreSQL user community to
help offset the costs of this upgrade. Nobody is *required* to contribute
... the upgrade is going to happen regardless, as it is required, but I'd
prefer not to have to pay for *all* of it out of my pocket.
Towards this goal, starting with v6.3's release, we will be making
a CD distribution of PostgreSQL, as one means for users to be able to
contribute to the project.
There are two new pages on our web site that I ask/encourage
everyone to read through:

I see that the cdroms are $39.95CDN. Is that in Canidian dollars?
Do you have a converted price for US dollars? How about the donations,
will you convert US checks?

Unfortunately, with the way that the currencies fluctuate, it will
vary greatly...but yes, it is in Canadian dollars.

Yes, this is not a problem

Accepting credit cards would be a good way to get international users
to buy. For a small sum, it really is too much hassle to pay abroad
by any other means...

I really wish we could accept credit cards :( Up here, at least,
it costs something like $10,000 upfront with the banks in order to even
get 'online credit card authorization' :( And that is if they will even
talk to you in the first place.
Things were alot more slack 10 years ago, when nobody really knew
what the Internet was, but when it exploded, so did the banks up here,
sine there were alot of 'fly by night' operations :(
I've had one suggestion on how we might be able to get around
this, using some of the online distribution houses that are out
there...I'm still looking into it, but so far dont' like what I'm seeing
:(

Eeek! That's a hell of a lot of money!!!!
But it wouldn't have to be online authorisation. It would be fine if you could
send your credit card number by post or 'phone or FAX. Do they charge equally
rediculous sums for that?
What about someone like Walnut Creek as a distributor? Or Prime Time Freeware?
Best wishes,
Andrew

Yup...and that was what they were pricing out 4 years ago...plus
you had to have some ridiculous amount of sales per month :(

Same...anything that doesn't have a card imprint pretty much
counts as "online" :(

I'm looking at what www.ncbuy.com does in partnership with a
company in the US...if it goes, then we'll have credit card sales
too...but so far, they are saying something like $10 off the top is
theirs, which doesn't leave that much after paying for the CDs
themselves...we'll see.

*rofl* I don't think so. I put up a US price onto the web site of
$29.95...plus I put a (+$6/yr shipping and handling), based on $2 per
release, 3 releases per year, for shipping...
Of course, if anyone out there with a little more distribution
experience then me feels that $2/cd is too high (or low?) please let me
know?
