How is this different from what is in current CVS?

You mean one already appeared since 10 Dec?! (There was a
PQescapeBytea, but not the reverse)

PQescapeBytea, but not the reverse)

Your patch has been added to the PostgreSQL unapplied patches list at:

http://candle.pha.pa.us/cgi-bin/pgpatches

I will try to apply it within the next 48 hours.
