Ubuntu 16.04: Xenial: Why was it removed from the apt repo?

All of a sudden I'm getting repo not found for
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on the APT repo. Why?

Because it has been removed and moved to the archives, as per the warning
from early July.

Ubuntu 16.04 is EOL from April 2021, over a year ago.
