IPC Problems - URGENT !

Did you build the kernel with IPC enabled?

I am in a similar position to the person below. I am trying to install
Postgres 6.5beta3 on a Solaris 7 machine (64-bit libraries installed) using
egcs-1.1.2 and receive the following when trying to run the 'postmaster -i'
command:

IpcMemoryCreate: shmget failed (Invalid argument) key=5432001,
size=1073152, permission=600
FATAL 1: ShmemCreate: cannot create region

Does anyone have some pointers on how to fix this? Or any idea what the

On a related note, Postgres 6.4.2 appears to function perfectly (I just
downloaded and installed, and haven't run into any problems yet). Thanks

Okay, this one I can help with a bit better...

If I remember correctly, this one is hitting you:

-B n_buffers
n_buffers is the number of shared-memory buffers for
the postmaster to allocate and manage for the backend
server processes that it starts. This value defaults
to 64 buffers, where each buffer is 8k bytes (or
whatever BLCKSZ is set to in config.h).

For starting up postmaster, the default is 64 buffers...try setting -B to
32 and see if htat helps...

Using ipcs to list shared resources, ipcrm to remove one. The id is the
number listed under shmid by ipcs.
