snapshot: dot or dash?
er, this is probably a very stupid question: the /pub/dev/ folder on the
postgres ftp server contains both postgresql-snapshot and
postgresql.snapshot files, which seem nearly identical, except they
unpack as postgresql-snapshot/ or pgsql/, respectively, and the size is
slightly different. what is the difference?
thanks, frank
(i want to use the snapshot cuz i need toast, the best thing since
sliced bread)

partial answer to my own question: dash compiles, dot doesn't . . .

Use "dash".
Not stupid at all. Marc, can you remove the old files?

You can see from the file dates that the dash-named files are more
recent. However, they are still startlingly out of date (25 Sep)
for files that are supposed to be rebuilt each night. I suspect the
cron script that handles this task is busted. Marc?

looking at it now, it appears that the build tree had something stuck in
it that it was trying to use byacc vs bison, which was screwing up the
build ...
doing it manual right now, after cleaning out some cache files, and all
looks good so far ...
