Contents of greatbridge.com?
Hi,
Does anyone know if the contents of Greatbridge.com is anywhere?
Someone told me that they had a good article comparing PostgreSQL to
other databases, which I would like to read - except that the site has
disappeared :-(
Thanks,
From what I understand they went out of business. I have not seen the site
morrored anywhere.
I wonder what this means for the future of PostgreSQL?

I don't think it means anything. PostgreSQL has several companies
supporting it, including RedHat, PostgreSQL, Inc. and Command Prompt,
Inc. (my company).
OReilly is also releasing two books on PostgreSQL in the next couple
of months,
Practical PostgreSQL and Web Application Development with PostgreSQL
and PHP. Both of which Command Prompt, Inc. has written (or are
writing).

You must be new here 'cuze this has been covered many times in the
last few weeks.
PostgreSQL is not now, nor has it ever been a product or property of
Great Bridge. PostgreSQL, Inc has been around longer than Great Bridge
and is still running just fine. In fact there's currently nine companies
listed on the PostgreSQL website that do the exact same thing as GB,
among them is PostgreSQL, Inc, and RedHat.
The projects website is, or is about to be available at
So to answer your question about what the future is for PostgreSQL? Just
as bright as ever.
Vince.

I would imagine that it would slow down the development a bit
until things settle down. However, I saw that Tom and Bruce
have been making changes to the CVS in preparation for release
7.2 so I would not be concerned. Also, keep in mind that Red
Hat has a large stake in PostgreSQL now so I would imagine that
they will contribute more now than they did in the past. No one
has mentioned it so far, but I wonder if any of the Great Bridge
people were hired by Red Hat? They were interested in buying
Great Bridge in the past. It would seem logical that they would
try.

Uhh, Tom and I are still on severance so we have some time to kill. :-)
We also don't feel we have to spend too much time looking for new
employment, if you know what I mean.

Sorry. I should have spoken only for myself and not for Tom.

The reason it hasn't been mentioned is that negotiations are still
in play. I believe I can safely say that RH hasn't hired any ex-GB
people yet ... but I doubt that will hold true for long ...
