Database connection problem

Hi,
I am trying to connect to postgresql database using php. But when i try to
connect i get the following error in the browser.
Warning: Unable to connect to PostgreSQL server: FATAL 1: IDENT
authentication failed for user "varsha" in /var/www/html/test.php on line 3
connection failed
I saw the pg_hba.conf file and the authentication type is trust. Can anyone
help me figure out this??
