Error parsing

Hello,

Is there any way to get information about the last error/exception? My
perl application needs to know if a delete failure (for example) is due
to a data integrity violation or something else.

There is always the error message of course, but it seems tricky,
unsafe and ineffective to parse the error string. Is there a better
way?
