Postgres and PAM Authetication

Utilizing RH80 and Postgres 7.3.3

Does Postgres support PAM authentication?

If so, is the PASSWORD attribute unnecessary in CREATE USER as authentication
requests will be forwarded to the system?

Any caveats or recommendations?

Documentation unclear on this possible feature.
